So tonight I get a call from the wife and she says that her and some girl friends from work are going to get there toes done tonight. Well after 25 years with the same women I don’t have a lot of issue with that at all especially since she never gives me any trouble about my shop time. I figure its all good as long as she does not want me to go get mine done! Anyway I decided that I needed to sneak out to the shop and see what I could get done on my table.
Well not to brag on myself (well maybe a little) I decided to take the rim off the plywood, turn it around and fit the rabbit onto the plywood. So I removed the ring, calculated and marked the plywood then rough cut it on the band saw. Once back on the lathe I turned it to diameter. Well I will tell you, there is not much difference fitting this plywood into the rabbit than there is fitting a lid on one of my boxes. I absolutely nailed it! I mean this thing fits like a suction lid with no play. So I guess I got real lucky and the depth looks good also for the veneering later.
With that done I went ahead and turned the face of the rim. Nothing fancy at all I just rounded over the edge of the rabbit and then tapered it back to a soft bead and then a cove. My thoughts here are to have very soft lines throughout this project.
So anyhow here is an overall picture of the finished rim for my tilt top table. Again I have wiped it down with mineral sprits to see if I need to do any more work any place on it.
Next I start preparing the veneering and the substrate.
