    Help for the math impaired

Would someone care to bail me out again? I'm making a flag box and can't figure out the angle to cut the miters. The box is of course triangular shaped with a base of 21 inches and the sides 14 inches. I could swallow my pride and keep doing trial and error but I'm running out of scrap so I thought I'd ask more expert help.

I'm assuming you want the corners mitered. Also that all three pieces are the same thickness.

If Yes to both, the 90deg corner where the two 14" sides connect will be a typical 45deg miter cut on each piece (of course).

At the remaining two corners, the angle formed is 45deg, so each piece will be cut to 22-1/2deg.

BTW, by my calculations the 21" leg will actually need to be about 19-13/16"

Don't worry, I had to look it myself and I used to be
DA BOMB at math....in high school. This helped jog the
          memory.

            Mike,

Wood Magazine, Issue 144, had a flag case plan that I made for a friend. It allows you to use only 45 degree angles. I was very pleased with the way it turned out.

I can scan a copy for you if you don't have that issue.

Um, I really dislike playing self-appointed Internet Police, but copyrighted material should not be posted to a public discussion forum. It's not fair to our host Sam Conder to expose him to that kind of liability.

Good catch on the copyright. Use these links instead to purchase the plans or the magazine.

The same plans as above, can be purchased here (download for $5.95):

                    Good point, Larry.

Steve, I'm sure you'd like to get up to speed on the fast-growing field of IP law, but this could be a real crash course!

I'm sorry about posting the plans. I'm a lawyer and didn't even think about a possible copyright violation. Not smart.

                        I have deleted the plans.
