    What its all about

Had a few minutes to do some surfing this afternoon. I really like mission and arts & crafts design and I came across this site http://www.stickley.com/index.cfm.

I didn't know Stickley was still in business.

Take the time to see the video, it is really impressive and makes you proud to be a woodworker, regardless of your proficiency level.

Super video. Thanks for the post, Ken

And much to my pleasure, NO stinking stain, NO stinking pocket screws and NO stinking nails!

Now, if I could only come close to that craftsmanship without using those stinking things! :-(

I really have nothing to say.
        That work left me speechless
        Really.

Amazing that any company, in any industry, has that kind of pride in their products in this day of disposables!

Not only did I enjoy the video, I found out that there is a Stickley retail store in Pittsburgh, so I went and checked it out. Just about every piece there was nice. Many inlays in the furniture there, and they were very nice.

There were though, 5 pieces that blew me away.

One was a sideboard with a curved front, with inlays in the curves, it was sick, almost inpired me to the point of giving up! Also there was a quilted mahagony chest of drawers that was fantastic, except for the faux distressing they did to it. Finally 3 occasional tables. 1. Zebra wood, beautiful. 2. Madrone burl veneer, need I say more? 3. Walnut burl veneer. They all blew me away.

Anyone in Pittsburgh, check it out, just for fun. It's in the Ross Park mall parking lot, just apart from the mall off of McKnight rd.

                    Stickley Furniture

As a matter of fact, Stickley is still in the furniture business with their factory near Syracuse, NY about 150 miles south of where I live. An older couple bought the business several years ago and continue making "prime quality" things. There was an episode on "Made In America" last winter that visited the plant. A million woodworkers must have been remotivated just by watching.
