Can oil-based finishes go in squeeze bottle?

Hello. Is it safe to put something like Forby's tung oil finish in a plastic squeeze bottle? I prefer to just squeeze it onto my piece, smush it around, and wipe the extra off. This saves using little plastic cups and even brushes some times.

I do it for my water-based poly because the water reacts w/ the metal can and causes rust. But I don't know how well the oil-based Forby's (or other oil-based products) will work.

    Thanks,
    Phil

Hmmm. Never tried it and I'd think the type of plastic would make a difference. Try putting some Mineral Spirits in the bottle and let it set for a day or two. If the bottle doesn't end up looking like a Salvadore Dali sculpture yoiu should be good to go.

    Bad decisions make good stories.

I put Liberon oil in an old Dawn dishwashing soap bottle
with a pop top about 2 years ago. It was fine for a
year and a half but I don't think I was too good about
keeping the air out. I threw it out last week because
it seems the leftover oil polymerized into a gel. The
      bottle was OK, though.

Absolutely. Think condiment dispensing squeeze bottles. I have stored plenty of Naptha/Poly/Linseed combos as well as other high VOC's in ultra cheapo Glad disposable storage containers. I kept them on the floor for a long time in case of leakage. Never had a problem. Notice at Lowes that they have some nice Rubbermaid storage. Nice wide open mouth. The gallon Rubbermaid was cheaper than a empty metal can at Lowes! I got the gallon for Poly storage and a few quart storage containers for other mixtures.
Seach the forums for wipe on poly storage. There was a lot of good suggestions.
