Sculpted Rocking Chair Class - Day 3

Busy day today, I doubt I'll be able to list my arms tomorrow after all mallet and chiseling the seat. I've established the basic shape and have a floor full of chips to prove it Today was a very long day 7:30AM to 8:00 PM.

Here is a photo of my seat. The right half is almost complete, the left side has a couple more hours of chiseling remaining.

You may notice that the legs are mounted We completed the joinery between the seat and legs today. It's a similar to a mortise and tenon joint and very strong. My joints are on the tight side and will take a little more sanding to loosen then up a little. We're going to assemble and disassemble the chair many times this week and I want it easier.

Here's a picture of the right fron leg joint

Here is a left hand view of the chair. You can see a test joint on the seat in front of the rear leg. This test joint is used to get the joinery the correct size and is on a portion of the seat that will get cut off later.

I'm tired and going to rest some. Another buys day tomorrow, its my turn to glue up by rockers. I'd goofed up the resawing on them so I spend some time today running them through the planer. As a result, I'll need a 10 piece lamination (everyone else did 8). I'll be short of pieces later and will need to resaw some of the stock I'd brought with me tomorrow while getting everything else done too.

Watching your progress as you create something from the raw lumber is exciting!

Dang it, Man. That doesn't look like lexan or aluminum. I reckon I'm jealous as well. As far as chisels for cutting the seat, I now have a CNC router that could lighten that load.
I don't imagine you would get near the sam pleasure from the aching muscles, though.
You have my attention. I have somewhat failed in past attempts at making a decent rocker. I look forward to your progress.
