    making a table darker

I finished a coffe table a couple of months back. I was pleased with the colour (early american) oil stain.
Well, I went to a flooring auction and saw a beutiful dark (Coffee) Maple.
    I just loved the wood/ and for 2.60 sq/ft for 3 1/2 by 3/4 strip flooring. I
had to have it. Now the flooring is down and looks great.
BUTT now by table is too lite.
I put 2 coats of water base poly on top.
Is there a reasonable way to darken the 1/4 sawn white oak with out
    stripping?

probably not, espically if you have already sealed the wood with poly or what not. But gel stain might work.

You could tint some PU and add one or more layers until desired darkness is reached.
