Chess set

I'm looking for some (free) plans for a chess set. Does anybody know of some good-looking ones? The bases of the piece would have to be under 7/8" diameter, because the board is gonna only have 1.25" ish squares.

I just used the plan for the board then altered it for a box base for storage of the pieces.

There are different styles out there that can be made in many different ways.

By the way, the piece that most concider to be the most difficult, the knight, doesn't have to be a horse. In many antique sets the knight was similar to the bishop but was topped with a "tricorner hat".

For some reason, I always kinda liked the bandsaw ones, something different than the regular turned/carved ones.

Also as a completly different suggestion, there are always the pieces made from plumbing fixtures. Those wouldn't be too hard to make, I think.

Most plans that you'll find will be for the turned pieces, so if you don't have a lathe, the bandsaw pieces may be your best bet.

yeah, bandsawed ones might work really well, since I don't have a lathe (but I do have acess to one)

Thanks for the chess set plans. I really like the bandsawn ones. Now, does anybody know of an arts/crafts, mission, or craftsman style chessboards, perferably with space to store piecces?

And would walnut and mahogany work well together? I have some that I got for free, and would like to use. (I was thinking it would work because the walnut it more brown, and the mahogany is more red.)
