    Pine Wall in Living Room

Guys, I've got a pine wall in my living room that really is beautiful. And even if I didn't think so, my wife and mother-in-law would never let me touch it......haha.

But what the heck do you do with the OTHER three walls ?

I have a doorway that you can just see the edge of in that photo. That leads to my hallway. From the hallway, you have four doors into the three bedrooms and 1 bathroom. All five of those doorways are cased out in stained wood, brown, as you can see.

Do I leave that one doorway cased out that way ? Is it going to look crazy if I case it out in white ?

I want to replace the old brown doors in the hall with new white 6-panel doors and replace all the casings with white as well. That's fine for the hall but I'm not sure about that doorway between hall and living room.

Then for the other three living room walls. Do I leave the dark baseboards ? Or will it look ok with new white baseboard butted up against that pine wall ? What about crown molding ? Same issue, white crown butted up against this wall ?

Just wanted some more opinions on this before I do something.

    Many thanks,
    Steve

I have used different colors of trim in different rooms, usually changing color in the middle of the door frame if it has a door in it. So, on the outside of the door, anything you see with the door closed gets the one color, anything you don't gets the inside color. Unfortunately, that doesn't look like it will work in your case, doesn't look like there is a door in that frame. I would think you still want the casing to be in the two colors on the opposite sides, don't know what to suggest for the break point.

Ok, so basically what you have is an accent wall. I'm no home decorator, but I believe the accent wall is normally on a stand alone basis. I would treat the rest of the room as you describe. An accent wall is supposed to stand out from the rest, so butting up against it should be no problem.

By the way, my dad's house has some of the same knotty pine treatment, and I agree, don't touch it. It is the most beautiful stuff I have ever seen. His was a porch that was enclosed sometime in the forties or early fifties, and they put it on all 4 walls and the ceiling. I love it.

white base boards on the three walls and try to match the pine for the base board on the pine wall.

Or you could carry the pine bases all the way around the room.
