    Finish for mahogany

I'm planning to make those nesting tables in Woodsmith for a house warming gift for a friend.
This will be my first "real wood" project.
The stock I bought seems to have a mix of shades, although that may change once I've milled and cut it all down to size.
I am going to try to match pieces for each table so it doesn't look weird.

I am wondering what type of finish one should apply to mahogany (honduras).
I am a little concerned about wear and tear on the tops.

On the Woodworking Channel yesterday I saw a chippendale dining table made out of mohogany. He use a red dye and a mohogany die, then use a grain filler that looked like paste or clay.

Try to find that program for some tips. I'll be doing a mahogany project soon and will be trying to figure this out, too.
