Fascinating. I finished the glue up and put a piece of edging round the outside. I normally would have routed it myself but it is a rush job for a table for my wife's business. It once had a marble table top but my wife's friend lost it, broke it, something happened. The bottom is supposed to look like hand carved mahogany. It is clearly white wood or some kind of pressboard underneath. I imagine in this day of modern manufacturing this was mass produced via some kind of mold. At any rate this is what I have been working on and talking about. Thanks for everyone's advice. Mike.

You are correct - roughing up the board does not help glue. I am aware it is a myth because glue works at micro level and roughing up works at macro level. But all I said was that the board after planer should be flat enough to provide strong joint, there is no need to sand. I did not suggest that sanding be removed if already done. Sorry if my message left wrong impression.Alex VComment
