I installed the end cabinet before I scribe the filler. Is it too late? The filler is 6" wide and the gap between the wall and the cabinet is about 5". The wall is not plump.

Measure the narrowest distance between the cabinet side and the wall. On the back of the filler nearest to the cabinet, draw a line along its entire length that is that distance from the inside edge. Lightly knock a few panel pins into the back of the filler along the line. Now use those pins to steady the filler along the inside edge of the cabinet. This will place the filler off the wall by at least the thickness of the cabinet side. Open your compass to the required distance to allow for this and complete the scribe. Hope that's clear?

You could offer up the filler vertically to the wall, then measure the biggest gap too. What you need is a way to reference the outside edge of the filler parallel to the cabinet, in order to scribe effectively, hence my panel pin suggestion.
Another way would be to scribe the filler so that it's a dead fit to the wall, then trim the excess from the inside edge. The ideal way is to trim the same amounts from both edges so that the fluting is central. That needs some careful measuring and calculations, but as long as you can hold the filler vertical and at a constant distance from the cabinet side, you should be OK.

Make a template. Cut a strip of hardboard about 4" wide, hold it to the cabinet, and scribe it. Cut along scribed line. Calmp to filler so at template widest point, scribed edge is flush with on edge of filler, and non-scribed edge of template is parallel to filler's edges. Trim filler to scribed edge of template with a flush-trim bit. Hold filler to the wall, make sure its non-scribed edge is plumb, mark where cabinet edge is, rip to width, (non-scribed edge riding along the fence). You might actually want to rip it about 1/16" wider than needed, so you can fine-tune it as needed.Comment
