Router Table from ShopNotes

I didn't follow the plan exactly because I didn't care to have the tilting top or the more involved fence from their plans. Got just a very basic router table to will do what I need to do for now.

My first "case" type of project at all....a good learning experience. It all came out pretty well except I made a disaster out of the drawer. I may just scrap that and start all over with a new one. The pieces were cut right but my assembly was poor and so it doesn't slide smoothly.

It's nothing fancy at all but sure beats what I had rigged up before on the end of my BT3100 with a piece of birch plywood:

Just say no to crown molding. Definitely the worst thing I've tried. I need a lot more experience with it and someone to really show me how to cope the end of a piece. I'll crawl around in the attic running wire any day over doing that again ! haha

Steve, nice looking table. What got my interest is you got it from Shopnotes. I made one from Shopnotes, too, only it is of all plywood. It's been sitting in the garage for 2-3 months now waiting for the insert (which is now on its way) to go into the top. I finally ordered it (from Woodpeck-the Phenolic one).

Yeah, the plan was for a 5' X 5' sheet of birch. Sure would give it a nicer look.

But I had two pieces of 1/2" MDF that were each about 4' X 4' from the cull bin at HD. And I liked the look of that melamine top which is also nice and slick.

I did use their basic plan though ! A template for creating the opening and ledge for the router plate would give it a better finished look. Mine is ok -- the right depth but not the perfect cut all the way around.

Looks fine!

And a great learning experience, too. There's nothing like the satisfaction of that first case, even if you think you could have done better on some part of it. (I'll let you know the first time I make something where I don't have a regret or two!)

Hey for your first one it looks great and I bet it works just fine. So yeah you should be proud of it. Good job. You are learning and that's what it's all about. I kind of differ from the last two guys. When I get done with a project I look back and hope that I did at least one thing right.
