Where is my Formby's Tung Oil?

Does anyone know if lowes has stopped carrying formby's tung oil?

I started finishing a project with it and ran out and I cant seem to find it anymore. I wanted a tung oil finish and I like the varnishy poly-like coating that formby's gives. Anyone know where I can buy it at anymore?

You can find it on the internet if you cannot locate it locally, do a google (heres and example: http://paint-and-supplies.hardwarest...sh-260851.aspx ). Last I looked our Lowes still had it.

        Josh,

The reason that you get the varnishy poly like coating is because that is mostly what it is. If the can has the word "Finish" after Tung Oil, it probably contains little or no tung oil. They get away with it because the focus is on "Finish". I do not remember about Formby's specifically.

I realize this but I still like it... do you think its not as good cause it doesnt ahve as much real tung oil in it? I know it seems pretty durable and very visually appealing

I agree with you that it does have a good finish and so do some of the other brands. In many ways TO "finishes" are just as good as other finishes in many cases and better in some. However I will say from my experience that there is a difference and real tung oil finish, when properly, done makes a special finish that is greatly appreciated in its own right.

I have seen pure tung oil used to give a hand rubbed oil finish to some woods that is just beautiful that polys can't touch. I have also used pure tung oil finish with a couple of poly coats on top that gave the best water protection that I have ever seen or experienced with any other finish.

I prefer poly and TO "finishes" on oak, but on walnut, I prefer oils, tung oil and others as well as polys in some cases.

The main reason for my comments was to make a distinction for those that may be unaware that there is a difference. Again, as you said It does make a very appealing finish.

I work two days a week at a Walmart in the Paint Department.
We have Formsbys Tung oil finish. As was said it is a blend of tung oil and poly. No doubt one could blend their own.
But I have used Fromsby quite a lot and it is a good easy finish.
