    Crosscut sled

For anyone who has made a cross cut sled or miter sled. What did you use as the base? I was thinking 1/2" ply, but was wondering if 1/4" hardboard would work? Just trying to figure out the best way.
    I love lamp.

My first was from 3/4 ply, because it was laying around. When I made another one, it'll be MDF.

I think you will find that MDF is the most popular choice for a sled base because it is so flat and stable. Its also pretty cheap but the stability is the main deal. I have tried plywood but it never stayed as flat as a MDF sled.
