    WTB BT3000 Blade Guard

Newbie here.. picking up a used BT3000 tomorrow in preparation for a (as much as possible) low-cost kitchen reno.. Saw is missing blade guard assembly and I'm leery about operating w/o it.

Shark looks like an amazing add'n but trying to get this reno done "on the cheap" as much as I can.

Anyone have any sitting around that they would be willing to part with for a reasonable amt.?

    TIA-

    Theron,

I'll take a look. I should have at least one laying around. I would think twice about the Shark though. The pawls on the factory unit can mark soft wood and the Shark also has a dust port attachment. I love my Shark.

I think I still have mine as we'll, I'd have to search. Mine is BT3100 but I think they are the same. I couldn't live without my shark... The ability to pop it on and off quickly means you'll leave it on when you can.

Shark will be my 2nd guard- no doubt.. For now, want to get up and running. Big $ ramping up for this project- basically starting from scratch.

Any help with the base guard would be appreciated.

If someone has a Shark to offer you jump on it. A good splitter/riving kinfe & guard is especially a must for a beginner.

I have had four different saws and all had Sharks - I even put one on an old Uni I recently restored even thought the Shark cost a bit more than the saw.

There are some OEM guards on Ebay now and they generally stay available there.

If someone has one that they will take less for here, that is your best shot. The Ryobi guards were actually pretty usable. A little tedious to install and remove, but effective. Thanks, Guys.

I actually don't use my blade guard. I just have a splitter and I prefer it that way mainly because it's inconvenience to take off the guard to do dado cut. The Sharkguard would have solved this problem. I wouldn't make cuts without at least a splitter though.

When I first started, Stytooner (the Sharkguard inventor - which I didn't know at the time) offered me an old version of the Sharkguard splitter but I didn't take it. It was mainly due to not wanting to bother someone else and the desire to create my own. I ended up making my own splitter out of galvanized steel. I'm still using it today.

So, I think the cheapest way for you to go is to make a zero clearance throat (another must for clean cut) and add a splitter made out of hardwood and attach it to the throat. This assumes you only do 90 deg cuts.

P.S. I can't find my guard so I can't even make you an offer. Sorry.

Sorry I was away from the forum since last weekend and forgot about this.

I did find mine... Looks like the going rate on eBay is about $55-60 shipped. I'll take $45 shipped within the con-US. PM me if you still need one.
