Nah... I have no real need for a SawStop, P8. It's a great saw actually and is built like a tank. But.. I would never pay the extra $1800 or so for the "hot dog" protectioin thing and still not end up with what I need which is a 5 HP saw.

I rip a lot of 10/4 and 12/4 and need more than 3 HP on occasion. Let's just say I was offered a TS with 5 HP at manufacturer's cost to avoid them having to load it up and take it back to their facility as it will be the floor model at the International Woodworking Show in Atlanta next month.

Sort of a deal that was so good.. I couldn't refuse when the offer was made when the manufacturer called me today to suggest it.

        Regards...

Ah I see. I figured it had to be pretty big for you to upgrade. Will you have to rewire to accommodate the added HP? How many amps is the breaker? Of course we'll need proof of this beast when you get it

It's for sale, MP. I have it listed on two other forums for $850. For BT-3's it might be negotiated at $800 but that is as low as I go with the accessories.

            ****

Paul... I had to run 2 220 V in my shop. One is 12 G - 20 amp breaker and dedicated 220 V outlet for the Cyclone as it pulls some amps. The other is 10 G - 30 A breker that goes to a 30 A outlet... then I dropped 12 G out of the bottom to a single box 20 A breaker and then outlet about a foot below it. My 5 HP planer runs off the 30 A breaker in the first outlet and I just flip the 20 A breaker under-neath off while using the 30 A. Then the 20 A brealer gets flipped back on for the Uni-saw.. 18" BS and 8" jointer.

So.. I am already good to go with the two 220 V lines and one rated for the 30 A but serves a dual purpose with the addition of the single box 20 A at the end of the line.

            Regards...

Man, I so badly wanted to go to that. Got the free invite from Delta/Porter Cable in my e-mail the other day. Was gonna stand in line and shake "His Nahmness'" hand and get an autograph.

But, my office is moving that weekend, and being as I am network and telephone admin, I gotta be here. Darn job responsibilities.

Sarge, man if I had the money (and if my little truck could haul it), I'd be at your place in about 3 hours. I'd love to have that saw!

I wish you could make the Show, JS. I will probably be there all 4 days for the public (Tuesday is dealer day) but for sure on Friday and Saturday as Sat. is the last day. The manufacturers use Sunday to load of tons of cast iron to make the trip home.

I wish you could get the saw also. I had Lanny from this forum inquire and another gentlemen from Auburn, Ala. inquire elsewhere. Neither have committed so the saw is up for grabs. With the economy and the fact you have to be within striking range of Atlanta to get it... not the best time to be selling. I will probably put in on Craigs-list in the Atlanta area in the next few days if I don't get a committal before. I would rather sell to someone that I associate with in one of the forums I visit.

But... a man has to do what a man has to do as if I don't sell it... Mama Lisa will kick my *ss if I purchase another saw when I have one. Trust me.. I could sell it and make a $400 profit selling the other saw used even though it is new if I just purchased it for re-sell. But the manufacturer didn't have that in mind when they offered it to me and it would be un-ethical which I ain't.

A man's Word is a contract around my neck of the woods..

                Regards...

I remember seeing that saw at your place, Sarge. Sure looked good.
I have actually been clearing a space for a lathe, but haven't found the right deal on one yet. No you have me sitting here trying to figure out if I could rearrange the shop enough to make room for it the Uni and how badly that would knock the lathe plans.

It's ready if you are BT. You know the saw from seeing it.. you know the add-ons... but do what is best for you. It has the 30" rails so not as much space taken up as with a 50" in case that might factor into a decision. And of course if you want to drop by the shop to re-familarize yourself with it.. you are well aware the welcome mat is always out and I'll leave the porch light on for you.

Regards from down the street... and tell your dad hello!

Well Dave.. it could still look good sitting in the back of your truck even though if performs from the ground with power hook-up much better. We haven't moved Atlanta since last month and a return past through only involves "reverse engineering" of a departure.

And if you do past through.. bring Wis. cheese. I can't eat the 1 lb. a day I used because my cardiologist would hemorge but... I still like to look at it and drool over it.

                        Regards...

Thank you Mike, it is indeed a nice saw and with the custom splitter ready to roll as it has rolled for 1 1/2 years. I am replacing with the Steel City 35626 that will be on the show-room floor of the large International Wood-working Show Aug. 20-23. They won't have to load it up and take it back to Murfreesboro.

The 35626 is an Industrial model left tilt.. 10" .. 5 HP.. 50" T-Square fence. I really need extra HP on occasion as I rip a lot of 2"-3" hardwood stock from rough. So at dealer cost as a favor from Steel City for testing their black granite fence on my jointer before it was released for sale.

The Uni-saw is a great saw.. if it were 5 HP there would be no need to make a switch as 3 HP is very sufficient for 99% of most peoples needs.

                            Regards..
