WTB Quarter Sawn Oak in SC NC GA

I've found a couple of lumber mills but can't find anyone so far that has it within a reasonable drive of Charleston. I work out of Sumter every other week so upstate can be done and even southern NC. GA isn't out of the question either. Woodfinder.com didn't do me much good either.

On that note, if anyone has any good sources for hardwoods in the Chattanooga area, please post them!

If you don't get any response locally, get with me and I will give you a source in Kennesaw, Ga. in the metro area. And yeah, that is a long drive. Sounds like I need to move to Charleston (beautiful architechure there) and open a hard-wood lumber operation.. ha.. ha..

      Regards...

Thanks Sarge - I found one not far away but the price is double what I'm used to.

There's the place that Ken Massingale and I frequent here in the Clemson area, but I don't think its any closer to Sumter than Charleston. He has very reasonable pricing, but its hit and miss getting him to do quartersawn anything. He generally has quite a bit of red oak, white oak would be more difficult. Let me know if you're interested and I'll scout up his number

Thanks Ken - I found a good source for red oak but just about given up on quarter sawn or white oak. I'm going back to Pensacola next month and I think I'll just bring a load back with me.

Can you let us know what your source is in Kennesaw?

My daughter & her family live NE of Spartanburg, SC. While there for Christmas my SIL told me a friend of his has a sawmill. (I find out after 6 years?) It's a one man operation but he does have some variety. He dosen't have a kiln so everything is air-dried. I brought home some Southern red cedar & pecan, all with a moisture content of 10% or less.

If you're interested I'll get his number for you.

I would like to have his number.

We need to start a list of the places to buy wood in SC. I am in Columbia, and its slim pickins around here. Not much available at all in the whole state<g>.

I only dealt with Erick once, but he's friendly and knowledgeable. BTW, he's also a woodworker.
