We've got one of those 70's split level tract homes, and when we had twin daughters, they started climbing up and down them when they were 12 months old. Obviously we don't have two sets of eyes, so we wanted a way to keep them from climbing up on their own.
Now the girls are almost 4, and we certainly don't need this anymore. I'd like to find a good home for the gate, it served us well, and was made with love, of course!
Construction details: maple, some cherry. 3 coats of water based poly (safe to chew on, although no teeth marks as far as I can tell). Self locking nuts, although some of the screws are too short and need to be replaced or tightened on a weekly basis (I'm sure someone can fix this small issue). Designed for 41 1/2" opening. 2 long #12 screws attach them securely to studs through drywall. Don't know how well it would adapt to wooden stair rails, but if you're the creative type...
