I have the exact same set, and both knobs on my carrier are cracked as well; they still work just fine. I've had good results with my set, and recommend it.
To do full 3/4" dadoes on a BT3K, however, you will have to grind a little on the saw's backplate to get clearance. It's not hard to do.
