I want to buy a Bent Wrench 53/64-inch

Hi all,

I’m trying to make or buy cheap a bent wrench to fit a Hitachi router (53/64-inch) for above-the-table bit changes < http://www.mikestools.com/Cmt-Router-Tables_1134.aspx >. Does anybody have this wrench that they aren’t using; know where to buy one cheap?; know how to make one?

Not having a Hitachi router, I can't give you specifics, but I'd recommend visiting sears, picking a single Companion brand wrench in the appropriate size and finding a buddy with a torch.

If I can suggest just buying a 21mm wrench and bending it yourself by heating and quenching.
Oh wait, metric might be hard to find there. Try houseoftools.com or even Lee Valley.

Bying the 21mm bent from sommerfeld had been advised before. Bending a forged wrench is not easy. If you want to go that route - stop by any automotive shop and buy cheapest possible 21mm wrench. Around me - that would be pep boys for about $6. Replace original stamped steel wrench with the forged wrench, which will be a step up anyway. Now try to bend the original Hitachi wrench all you want. Remember - collet of a router should not be overtightened - Hitachi original wrench is as cheap as it gets and it is still plenty strong. Anything you buy will be a lot stronger.

I've got a bent router wrench from Woodpeckers.com. Not sure if they have one to fit your router, but you can try them.

I'll second the Bent Wrench from Sommerfield. I bought one at the Tool Show a couple of weeks ago. Makes bit changes, sooo much easier.

While your there, get the rubber grommet for the M12V too... Just put it down the shaft and you won't have to try and hold the bit above the bottom of the shaft while holding the Spindle Lock and tightening with the wrench all at the same time.

Scott, Woodpeckers no longer carries the 21mm offset for the Hitachi M12V. In fact, when I tried recently to get one from them, they told me that they're discontinuing the offsets altogether, and will sell only until their inventory is depleted, so those folks needing other sizes besides 21mm better get 'em quick.

You could give the wrench to my sons for about 15 minutes. It'll have several bends then...

hi- OK maybe try the wrench from sommerfeld since it appears on sale. i see these rubber grommets- but i'm still a little confused about what they do- what do they do?

The rubber orings,which you can buy them in any plumbing section or a set from HFT for a much cheaper price too. They keep the bit from overinsertion and absorb some shock too.

For $4 you can buy lot more than 10 small orings!

I hate those cheaply made bent wrenches. They spread then crack,way overpriced too. Why they sell them like that is beyond me? The people at Woodpeckers even think theirs are cheap in quality. I asked them when I was looking to find a better wrench.
The PC 8529 Router's wrench is about the best of the bunch. You can buy that one as a part.
I have MIG welded extra steel to reinforce my cracked Delta BT Router/shaper table bent wrench. I would do as said, get a torch to a 21mm forged wrench.
