    Request for Comment

Toying with the thought of making this space into a bedroom. It's never been finished it seems and I'd like to start using it. I'm trying to wrap my brain around how to finish the ceiling for one thing. Let me know if something cool hits ya..

    Thanks,
    B

Too many windows (do they even function?) for a bedroom. Seems more like a reading room then anything to me (think enclosed porch).
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

Looks like a nice space and if no close neighbors might make a good bedroom. Tapered tongue and groove knotty pine?

How about plaster and a mural? Perhaps something with a biblical theme.

Regardless of the ultimate use, it will be a unique space. Does the door just open to the roof or is there some kind of a deck that doesn't show in the pictures?

As a bedroom, privacy could easily be achieved with blinds and/or curtains. My greater concern would be heating and cooling an area with that much glass.

I would consider framing in a 'dropped' ceiling from the top plates to maybe 9" lower at the peak to create a dead air space. It could be rocked and taped in sections or done with 2 layers of 1/4" rock to give a smooth, slightly rounded transition between the sections. The last would be my preference.

(Reading Gerti's post made me think my wording on the dropped ceiling wasn't clear so I edited it.)

Now you're on to t something. It could be a Thanksgiving dinner mural, with you're Uncle Bob gesturing to Little Billy saying "Pull my finger...".

How about some thick hemp type rope, and starting from the center, fasten it to the studs as you create a spiral coiling outward, then perhaps stain it or seal it with something ?

I've seen a technique that pro drywall folks might use involving wetting thin drywall hanging it before it dries again.

Not sure what I would do with it after that other than the "pull my finger" fresco JR mentioned.

No bathroom close by would make it a no-go as a bedroom for my wife. Reading/crafts room with build-in cabinets under the windows, maybe some doubling as window benches would be my first thought. Could double as bedroom for visitors (especially kids!).

Ceiling: maybe a substructure that follows the octagon structure provides by the walls into the peak, with a nice octagon medallion at the top. maybe even some fake beams. That way you got a lot fewer facets to work with. Personally I'd use wood up there, but I guess that is a matter of preference.

The heck with what everyone else says, I love all the possibilities.
But then again, you're living there, so do what you (or the wife) really wants.

Be a great place to be watching a thunder storm from with an adult beverage in hand. I'd put some comfy furniture up there and use it as a quiet space.
