    Replacing Vacuum Cleaner Plug

My vacuum cleaner has a 2-prong plug. The plug is damaged, and I have already clipped it off. Is it safe to replace the plug with a 3-prong plug. The reason for asking is that I have a bunch of spare 3-prong plugs at home.

The cord has two wires (hot and neutral) but the plug has three screws (hot, neutral, ground). Can I just wire the hot and neutral to the appropriate screws and ignore the ground screw?

I wired the plug, and the vacuum cleaner is working again. I just wanted to get some feedback. Thanks.

Just a follow-up that it is okay to replace a two-prong plug with a three-prong plug, the opposite is not true. If you have a three-wire cord, you need a plug with the ground. Using a plug without the ground may expose someone to a shock hazard.
