Stumped by a plumbing problem!

it seem like its been ages....but i have been mia from here and a million other things ......i got stumped when i dug into this and thought i'd ask to see if someone has seen a set up like this.

i have a faucet that has been rusting for the last 6 years and now we cant even turn the handle anymore....i was just way too lazy to look into this till now.

i cant figure out how to remove the faucet and what is it that i need to replace....i'm thinking that it must be the top nut that rust to ****. here are some pics from under and the faucet over.

our cold water faucet chrome/gold thingy came off because the white clear plastic think on top was broken...but i cant get the chrome/plastic part for the hot water side off to see what is under it. that plastic piece just keeps turning and turning...so it seem like its being held down by the clear plastic part on top but that does not turn. from the under the sink, i have no clue!

any ideas? where am i going to get parts? how do i even know what brand this thing is? i cant replace the whole thing out because i will need to replace the next sink over, the tub.....etc. but i still need to get it off.

Step 1. Liberally spray the corroded parts with Break-Free CLP

Let it sit for a day, and this will dissolve most or all of the corrosion so you can see the tool "pockets" to remove the ring.

Step 2. Go to the Moen website and see if you can find your faucet. It looks sort of like Moen to me, but it could be Delta or another brand. The key is to figure out the brand and model. Review the exploded diagrams to better understand how to get it apart.

Step 3. Call the manufacturer and explain what is broken. Most of the name brands provided free lifetime repair parts. They will send you the parts free along with directions on how to install them.

Step 4. When the parts arrive, removed the old parts, install the new parts, test for leaks, and bask in the glory of a job well done!

thanks for the ideas...that break free stuff looks pretty cool.....i got it out last night...am going to have to cut the top washer/nut off.

i didnt even think of going to moen's or delta's site....will check it out.

Looks to me like you could slip that top inside saddle clamp off. Pull the cotter pin. that should allow removal of the feed line. Then just pull it out.
In general, these things almost always tighten from the underside. I would not be surprised if it isn't that way though. I have seen some odd ones before. Especially in Europe.

update: i called pfisher price and after sending them pictures, they were able to find the faucet model and send me a new vale...is slightly taller above the sink (by an 1/8") and now has a nut and wide washer at the bottom to tighten....so i am in luck and dont have to change out all of the faucets in the bathroom to match.

me too...it was worth the wait....they didnt even ask me any questions...when i told him i could not find the model number on the tap, he told me email him a picture...then a couple of days later he emailed telling me that he could not figure it out so his manager was looking into it...then a few days later, he write to me that hes shipping the stuff. it went pretty easy compared to the rest of the stuff i usually go through
