What to cut slate with in a tight space?

I need to cut some slate tiles I just installed (doh!). There are at the bottom of my hearth and I need to cut them to allow me to install hardwood floors, so I only need to cut about an 1" above the floor. The tiles are 3"x5" and less than a 1/2" thick. I've tried the harbor freight multi tool and it works but I would need to buy a ton of blades to get the job done. I do have a HF grinder as well but I don't know if that's the right tool either.

    What do you guys recommend?

Have you tried both the carbide and the diamond blade attachments?

If you have a Dremel, depending on how much you have to do, I'm sure there is a tile blade for that.
You don't need a parachute to skydive, you only need a parachute to skydive twice.

I would use your HF grinder and a diamond blade. It will easily cut it only challenge would be to cut a straight line.

Yes and they both work but not for very long.

I think I will try the grinder and a continuous diamond blade. Hopefully I can control it.

            Piece of cake

Take your hand grinder (4inch) with a diamond blade and cut away. The only problem will be the dust getting everywhere. Parhaps a shop vac to help.

I used my grinder with diamond blade to cut bricks today and no problem.

Thanks! It worked like a charm! I can't believe I didn't think of it, I actually went out and bought the multi function tool.
