    Coffered ceiling (ceilings too low?)

I really like the look of a coffered ceiling and I would like to do this to my living room but I have one concern.

My house was built in the 70's and I have an 8' ceiling height to work with. Should I bother? What's a typical beam width and depth for a room roughly 11'x11'?

I'm looking at something like this without the square blocks.

I never installed one of those, but they sure look nice. If you figure out how everything is held to the ceiling, I see no reason why you couldn't make it any size you wanted. IMHO a 6" depth would work with an 8' ceiling. If you do install one, please post pics when you're done. Good luck.

Do you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

I agree, you can make it to your preference. An 8' ceiling would be OK. You could make them 3"-4" deep, by 4" to 6" wide.
