LOML saw this one in a sears ad. It is a #13442. Basic no frills but has to be better than the 15 year old one we are using now.
Anyone have any info on this?

Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?
so the dishwasher matches the rest of the appliances. Or does this belong in Around the coffe pot forum. Uh oh I hear her banging the pots now, gotta run litterally.
AFAIK, the Kenmore dishwashers are still made by Whirlpool who has a very good reputation for DWs. We've had a Whirlpool DW for the past 13 years with no isseus. The model 13442 is on sale, and if you originate a search for it through Bing.com, you'll get another 5% off.

I'm pretty sure this is the same dishwasher we bought in September. IMO, it would only deserve 2 stars out of 5. Our old 11 year old Maytag did a better job of washing dishes. It's best quality is that it's pretty quiet, whereas the Maytag was not. Here's a list of negatives:
1. The book calls for a water temperature of 120 degrees or more. Our dishes were not coming clean, so I checked the temperature. It was 119 degrees. Cranked up the water heater a little, and it read 126 degrees. Better, but certainly not great.
2. Switched to a more expensive dishwasher soap. This also helped, but was not needed with our old Maytag.
3. Everything was coming out with water spots. Using a rinse aid (Cascade) took care of the problem, but again, it was not needed with the Maytag.
4. I am the chief dishwasher in the house. The book says not to rinse the dishes, but just scrape them before loading. I always rinse before loading, so the dishes are minimally dirty to begin with.
This is not the bottom of the line dishwasher, and I expected much more.
130 seems to be the magic temperature for my Maytag (Whirlpool) dishwasher. Really cloudy glasses until I cranked the temp up. From what I've read the detergent needs the fats in the food to create the right chemistry to make it work, hence the "no rinse" suggestion.

Our old GE gave up the ghost late last year and my wife purchased a Bosch as a replacement (Consumer Reports told her to).
The GE always did a good job, but was INCREDIBLY noisy.
The Bosch also does an excellent job, and the only noisy I can hear is some sprinkling water. Love that.
The Bosch doesn't have a heat dry mode. The GE used to get quite warm in order to dry the dishes. The Bosch simply hits them w/ hot water and then sits. So it takes a lot longer for dishes the dry on the Bosch. No big deal, as we can leave it all day or overnight.
Having had the Bosch, I'd never go to a noisy unit again.
I'll second on the Bosch. We couldn't have a dishwasher for some time because our well water was too hard. When we got public water (long story), we bought a Bosch. A little more expensive than some. We always use the short cycle (1/2 hr) and the dishes come out spotless. The Bosch doesn't have a heater dry cycle so we have to remember to prop open the door when it finishes to dry. It is almost noiseless.
Between the dog and us the dishes are rinsed before putting them in.
Thanks all for the replies and comments.
We were not too sure for one main reason, and this shows how much I do not know about dishwashers. The add said it had nylon racks.
OK, so I know enough about nylon to know it is flimsy, so I was expecting some weak sagging racks. Well, it is nylon coated wire racks. This one also has a disposal built in and we got the discounts from the sears add. She is happy with the purchase and it should be here sometime Saturday.
Then you-know-who will have an install job this weekend. Installing a dishwasher cannot be that difficult so I plan on doing some woodworking as well on Saturday. Yea right!

I have the Whirlpool model. It is good but not great. With "Finish" detergent it does a good job. Pretty quiet. Mine has the silverware rack on the door. Looks cool but not really better.
