    New gutters estimates

I 've had a damaged section of gutter at the back of my house for quite a while that I promised myself I would get fixed one of these days. After a tree fell during a windstorm last year and damaged a section at the front of the house, I bit the bullet and got estimates for new gutters. the back is a 34 foot straight shot, mostly 13' from ground level but 12' are above my basement garage drive, so that part's about 23 feet up. the front has a bumpout for the porch, so there's 10 straight feet on either side of the porch, the bumpout is 4 1/2 feet deep. 3 downspouts. all @13 feet. I scoured the internet for pricing, and the best I found was from TOH - $5 to $9 per linear foot installed. With 3 estimates in hand, none quoted a price per fooot, so I calculated as follows- 34 +10+10+9 =63 feet of gutters + 39 feet for 3 13' downspouts. here are my estimates
    1) Local gutter company found on internet - approved by BBB
    $494.00 for 5" aluminum gutters and 2"x3" downspouts = $7.84/ft
( .50 per foot extra for old gutter removal and disposal)
(after I got this one a friend removed the old gutters and tightened all the fascias and inspected for good wood all around in 1 hour, the city trash took them(actually the scavengers got them first)
    2) local roofing company recommended by my insurance agent
    no BBB affiliation
    $700.00 - no details - estimate on lined legal paper = $11.11/ft
    3) Local roofing company which advertises (a lot) on TV - approved by BBB - $1017.00 for 6" aluminum gutters, and 4" square downspouts - most detailed estimate - " Alcoa aluminum hidden hangers will be installed at a maximum of 32" apart. New aluminum 3"x3" apron flashing shall be installed along all gutter lines. screws with neoprene washers will be installed at back of gutter between hangers as needed for additional security. new 4" strainers installed in all outlet tubes. new 4" aluminum downspouts shall be properly fastened to house. New apaptors will be installed at base of all new downspouts if they meet underground drain. All gutter end caps, outlet tubes, miters, and seams would be sealed using Karnak 502 seam sealer and polyester fabric = $16.15/ft
this company included fixing shingles damaged at the front (2 new shingles and a new shingle cap)- so I'm estimating $100 for that part - to to be overly generous so new estimate is $14.55/ft

I'm going with option 3 - $1017 - I can save 2% by paying within 5 days of invoice, and I had budgeted $1000.00, but was hoping for more like $700.00

just thought someone might be looking for similar info

P.S. - I'm getting white, but there appears to be 16 other colors at the same price, and 6 more that are special order

Excellent info. I agree, option #3 looks best. Looks like they took the "do it right" approach, while the other two took the "do it inexpensively" approach.

Knowing what I know now I'd have chosen your #3 option also.

I had about 150' of "seamless" aluminum gutters put on my house for $6.50-7.00 a foot about 6 years ago. A couple of tattooed thugs (different than their estimator) did it the cheapest way they could with spikes and ferrules and didn't pitch it toward the downspouts. They hacked off the rafter tails unevenly with a sawzall (no fascia) and they didn't use galvanized screws so every screw is now rusting. I didn't know any better at the time and they were recommended by a friend. I do have to say it does work and they haven't fallen off of the house.
