Installing a floating laminate floor over a slab in a dry downstairs half-bath. No shower, just a sink and toilet.
For a floating floor, the flooring needs to be 1/4" gap all round and also around a toilet flange according to the technical support at pergo.
I had to take out a 1" mud bed to get the old tile out (no idea why they did this on a slab when the house was built in '82), so I had to also cut off the old flange with the plan to put a new one in.
So the question is: Do I just cut the pipe level to the slab and put a flange on, and then put some kind of extender over it, since the flange will be slightly below the level of the floating floor? Or should I shim the flange so it is off the slab and I get the flange ring slightly proud of the finish floor?
If the answer is shim it- any ideas what to use? Was thinking I could even use a 1/4" flange extender ring, but the holes didn't line up for the flange I need to use.
