    Venetian blinds?

We have a set of French doors, and another single door that have wood blinds on them. They look nice, but there are a couple of things we don't like about them. Number one is that they swing when the doors are opened/closed. I haven't found a good way to control this, although I have limited their travel. Number two is that they interfere with the door handle, although they don't render them inoperable.

Yesterday, we enjoyed Easter dinner at our daughter's home. They also have French doors, and a lot of windows. All have been fitted with blinds enclosed between the window glass and another piece of glass, which is part of the aftermarket item. It gives the look of those windows/doors that have the blinds incorporated into the window/door. The whole thing is held in place with plastic snaps that are screwed to the door/window frame. They were made by Hunter-Douglas. We like the looks of them, and they solve the minor problems indicated above. But Hunter-Douglas doesn't make them any longer.

I tried to find something like them online, with no luck. Does anyone have an idea where we might find something like that?

      Hi Mike,

That's the same thing, but it is interesting, and might be a solution. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out further. I called Hunter-Douglas this morning. They knew exactly what I was talking about, but said they do not offer them any longer.

        Home Depot

Home depot carried this item, I think by special order last year when I was looking at maybe installing french patio doors. They had a demo item in the store and I thought they were pretty slick.

At some of the condo's at the beach here, I have seen blinds like yours.
They are fastened at the bottom with brackets. You have to release the brackets to lift the blinds for cleaning, but the stay in place just to operate them open or closed. This keeps them from swinging when you open the doors. They typically trimmed the slats the got in the way of the knob or handle.
That or they custom ordered the correct width.

I bought the plastic anchors that stick on the door. They help, but I'm not really happy with them. We bought the blinds from Home Depot, and they cut them to fit. Even when they are cut to fit, it still requires one slat to be cut shorter than the others to avoid the handle. I wouldn't be happy with that either. So we just wrestle with it for now.
