My large jetted bathtub has a 1 HP pump that locks up. When you remove the pump and open up the impeller chamber and rotate the impeller, the pumps works. It will function properly for about 2 weeks then locks up. The tub is usually used once a week. Any idea how to correct this problem.

1. If there is no noise from the motor it is probably the relay in the pump control not the pump.
2. Check the start- switch, if the start switch is bad you will get a large amount of noise but no rotation.
Long 3. The other possibility is a cracked rotor end ring on both ends of the rotor causing a dead spot, this will leave the motor with little starting torque and reduced power on the top end but they will typically still try to start, sometimes not coming up high enough to kick out the start switch though.
The cracked rotor rings are very unlikely but possible if the rotor has been dropped. Is this a new problem or one that has been there since the motor was new. If it has been there since new the cracked rotor is possible.Art
