    Interesting phenonemon with ice dams

Every winter there is a single stretch of roof that ALWAYS dams up forming big icicles and a giant patch of ice on the driveway below. No other part of the room does this. Its in a recently remodeled (5 years ago) portion of the house, and there are proper soffit vents and a ridge vent installed along with proper insulation around the rafter vent and insulation in the ceiling, however one side of that roof always dams up. The other side does a little two, but never as bad. The rest of the attic to my knowledge isn't as well insulated and I don't think has soffit vents. The snow on every other roof is fairly even. Its just the new roof that is causing problems.

The only nearby thing that could be causing this is an exhaust fan in a second story bathroom, however its about 6 feet away from that roof and the dams are worse the further you get from that vent. What could be causing this?

You mentioned soffit vents, does it have ridge vents or other roof vents near the ridge to allow the air to move through the attic and to vent any heat build up. What causes ice daming is that part of the roof temperature is being raised above freezing when the soffit area is below freezing. This is caused by not having sufficient roof venting, or I have seen ridge venting covered with snow and stop venting causing the heat build up and ice dams.

it does have a ridge vent, but it could be that it is being covered with snow.
