I have only one full space left in my main panel. I haven't finished ID'ing the last few circuits yet - but they've done a nice job using up and loading up all of the circuits. For example, the 15A circuit that feeds my garage outlets/lights is the same circuit that feeds the wall outlets/light in the Laundry room, 4th Bedroom and closet. This continues throughout the entire house with multiple rooms fed by single breakers. The panel is already full of tandem breakers.
I have a couple of options - Each with their own questions. Either add a sub-panel or reconfig the main panel. If I add a sub panel I'll still need to free up another space in the main to accommodate a 240 circuit. Here's main question - I currently have a 20/40/40/20 common trip that is only feeding the dryer. The outer 20A legs are not in use. Can I remove the trip bar from the outers and use them as individual breakers? Or can I upgrade the breaker and use the outer legs to feed a sub panel?
Ultimately I want to seperate the garage from the rest the house - leaving the inside on the 15A circuit and adding at least one 20A circuit for garage outlets and another for the lights.
