    Laminate flooring repair?

We have laminate flooring in one room. It is the glue down type from Armstrong. There is a form underlayment under it. We have one spot that is worn, and the finish is gone. Does anyone know if you can take a piece out, and replace it? If so, what's the best technique to follow? Of course, I don't even know if I can find the same stuff any longer, and I don't have any leftovers.

    Flooring

Have you considered just refinishing the worn spot? We have the same flooring in the living room and it gets scratched and worn where my recliner sits. I often have to use a little stain and pencil stick to hide it. Seems to work good enough for the wife. It would be a real pain to remove and replace one piece as they are normally tongue and groove.
    Hope you will consider this.
    Thanks,

Ed, is it actual laminate flooring or is it engineered wood? When I think of laminate I think of Pergo - the floating floor stuff.

If engineered wood, contact the manufacturer they may have the stain. You can try matching the finish in place, or if you can find it you can rout a section out and replace. Since it is glue down, removing it will be tough. I would rout out enough to reach seams on either side. Then remove the tounge and bottom of the groove on the new stuff. I would glue then use brads to hold it down and a stain stick to cover the brad holes.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, it's the floating floor, like Pergo. I think I'll try to find some kind of stain, but I wonder if stain will work at all? I guess it's worth a try. If that doesn't work, maybe I'll try the router on it after it gets a little worse. Thanks again, guys.

If it is Pergo, then it probably won't take stain. I am surprised it wore out. How long has it been down? Our laminate has been down 5 years this March with kids, dogs, etc and it still looks like it always did.

It's been down for 9 years. That's the only place showing wear in about 400 sq. ft. of flooring. I didn't think it would take stain either, but I might try a little anyhow.

I might do that, but first I'll call Armstrong tomorrow to see what they say.
