    Recessed Door Frame

We had a new front door installed recently. I need to install trim around the inside, but the new frame is recessed at the top of the door by about ½". If I put up trim, there will be a noticeable gap between the trim and the frame.

Does anybody have a suggestion on how to fix this?

    Thanks,

    David

When I had this problem (with an interior door), I just ripped down some stock and made a "spline" type filler. I was lucky in that the frame and trim were both oak.

I installed it with a few dabs of wood glue and some brads.

I made it 1/8" thinner than the door frame. Then when I hung the trim, I gave that another 1/8" reveal - it looked fancy.

I would make just a "filler" piece, as was suggested. A good fit is almost unnoticeable. If it's a woodgrained frame/trim, the line will be faint. If it's painted you can spackel it and paint.
