    Very Cool

Congratulations, getting past each milestone is a daunting process. But I think you have figured out the secret.

This will probably be the last update until spring as we will be doing most of the work inside from this point on. Windows and doors are all in, roof is on the garage and house. Circular staircase is in, what a bear that was. Plumbing is mostly done and electircal wiring is about 50% completed. The HVAC guy is coming on the 24th of Nov to do his thing. We remain ahead of our schedule. We have been working the house for 6 months now and a year total. Still married!!

      Garage, house, stairs.

The staircase looks very nice. And having everything dried in will make the winter work much nicer.

        Is the garage two story?

Looks great! Post some inside shots as you make progress there over the winter. The inside looks like it'll be just as interesting as the outside.

Wow that is awesome work! Having it dried in for winter will be nice. Having HEAT would be even nicer.

The garage is two story in the back half as its built on a steep grade. Gives us a very nice, large storeroom. Would be nice for a shop as well but don't want to go up and down that hill all the time. So there's a 12x22 shop in the rear of the garage behind the cars.

You are correct, heat WOULD be nice. Had ice on the roof yesterday and today when we arrived. I'll have to work on the heat issue for this winter. We expect 10 degree temps on some days. BBBBBUUUUUUUURRRRRRR!

We are using a fiber/cement siding with a mahogany stain, 8" wide. As we are in a high fire area we are using as much non-flammable material as possible. All exterior trim will also be a fiber/cement material.

Excellent planning! I presume there will be no conifers near the house, limited use of oily plantings, etc. Maybe a few succulents?

You've thought this house through beautfully, Rags. It's looking great!

Thanks for the kind comments. We have to remove a number of pine and cedar trees (unfortunately as we love the trees) and a lot of manzanita trees. They tend to burn really hot. We will not be doing too much landscaping as we have many, many squirrels and deer who tend to munch on everything. The area teems with wildlife so planting flowers, etc is not realistic. We love the animals so its not a great sacrifice for us. Lots of planters on the deck most likely.

PS: Also running out of money, thank goodness we decided to build ourselves. All that's left is insulation, drywall, trim, heating, tankless water heater, pellet stove, septic, flooring, sinks, showers, toilets, cabinets (most are made) then painting, staining. Short list compared to day one!!

                          Rags,

It is looking good. BTW: Your short list is still long

Quick question - since you are wintering with house wrap, did you nail or staple it on?

House wrap is stapled on (5/8" staples). Still need to do some of that on the second floor, easy to do probably take less than 2 hours.

Short list is wwaaayy too long, but the long list is a lot shorter than a year ago. The trick is (for us anyway) was to focus on what we are doing today and not dwell on the light at the end of the tunnel. Just too daunting to think about being finished.
