    Soffit Vent Problem

I have soffit vents under the eave on the front of the house that are 2" circles every 2' (22 of them). They are cut in 3/4" wood that is 2 1/2" wide. So, there is a 1/4" flat all around the hole. On the inside of the hole there is screen, that is torn and has holes large enough to let small critters like roaches and lizzards the ability to get in.

I'm thinking of making add on rings, 2 1/2" in diameter, with screen glued on the inside and using two screws to mount them, so they will be removable for painting or repair. It would be like a 2 1/2" washer, with a 1/4" face, preferably in some kind of plastic.

Or, maybe some kind of continuous/removable vent w/screen that is only 2 1/2" wide. I'm open for some suggestions as to what to use, or make.

We did just that, at least for part of the venting. Only difference is that we had pieces of screen nailed between the roof struts. They became completely occluded with dust and other debris and then got painted (spray) over. They were pulled off and replaced with the kind of continuous vent arrangement you mentioned.

Really noticed a difference in the amount of ice dam (or **** ice) formation in the winter.

    Regards, Steve

You can get the pierced siding and cut it to whatever size you need.

You can buy 2 inch round mini louver vents made out of aluminum with an integral screen instead. More expensive than a shop built version, but much less time and energy involved, plus they are easily removable and replaceable. First place I found on the internet had them for $3.50 a piece, but I'm betting you can beat that at a good building supply place.
