    Vinyl shutter install

Does anyone know of an alternate mounting method for exterior vinyl shutters.
They come with these huge plastic pegs that you are supposed to drive through the shutter and the siding and into the wall.
Honestly, I 'shutter' to think of drilling holes in my new siding.

I'd like to use some kind of hidden bracket, if available.

    Thanks all.

That's the way I install them everyday. Some home owners have used 3" wood screws but the prefered way of installation is still by using the pegs.

      Well OK.
Just is going to hurt a little :-)
I suppose once they are put up there would never be a reason to remove them unless to install new siding...which isn't going to happen anytime soon.

      Thanks Iceman

I used vinyl coated deck screws - worked great (just be sure not to torque them too much and crack the vinyl).

They need to be able to expand and contract. So if you go with an alternate install method, make sure you don't install them too tight or they will bow.

            Thank you.
I had overlooked that fact. That makes me dissapointed in myself as I kept this in mind the whole time I was installing the siding. And I can say after nearly 2 fuill years that there has been absolutely no buckling or other problems with the job.
Looks like I will be using the pegs.
