    Spare furnace motor?

Well, last weekend I removed the blower assembly from my furnace and had the motor, motor mount and squirrel cage all apart and cleaned it all up. Then I made sure it was well oiled, but not over oiled. While it was on the bench I recorded the information from the motor. I am wondering if it would be a worthwile investment to get a spare motor to have on hand.
The reason I would even consider it is because LOML has taken to leaving the fan on constantly when the AC is on. She says it keeps the temp more consistant throughout the house. I'm not sure that motor was intended to be run 24/7.
Also, does anyone here have information on putting in a motor that can be set up on a switch to run it on a lower speed for such a 24/7 use. I know the high efficiency units have such a feature built in but I don't recall of anyone doing this on an older furnace.

    TIA

If the motor has bronze bushings and has been lubed regularly it should last about 20+ years. If it's ball bearing it will probably last longer. If it does die they are easy to find and DIY replace. The cost of running 24/7 is hard to quantify because power consumed. by the motor is off-set by the fact that it keeps the temp more uniform and therefore the compressor runs less. Plus "If mommas happy everyone is happy".

      Thanks Charlie.
I had almost forgotten about this thread.
Someone I work with said they were told it will not harm the motor to run it 24/7 so I'll keep momma happy by doing so when she wants.
As for a 2-speed, it seem to me that since this one runs at 1075 rpm, I doubt I'd want one to run much slower.
