Hey, guys,
The plumber came over today and we looked over our heater set up. It seems like the only "problem" we have is that our water heater and space heater vents are joined together. He said that we'll have to install a separate seamless vent for the tankless. Otherwise, our gas line is just the right size and nothing else needs to be done.
The tankless itself is about $900. The materials, including the vent and tankless heater, come to about $1400. With labor and hauling the current tank, it totals about $2200. We asked for a written estimate, and he'll mail it to us in the next few days.
The only thing we have to decide on right now is what size tankless we should get. I think a 6.5 gpm is enough but my husband thinks we should get more, like an 8.1 or something. We have two baths, and either one will be more than enough for two showers running simultaneously, and maybe even a dishwasher in the mix.
Anyone has any suggestions? I'm thinking if the difference in price is less than $100, I'll probably just go with the bigger one. That will make our house more flexible if/when we ever sell, especially to a family with two or three kids.
By the way, we're going with Noritz.
