    Tube type skylights

I bought one over the weekend and am considering putting it in myself. Anyone have any experience with these?

There was an article in Family Handyman a year or so ago about this. Check in the library for the issue. Sorry I don't remember the exact month/year.

      Only watching the installation

We got one several years ago and had it installed. I watched the guy do it and it was definitely not rocket science. The only real tip I picked up from him was to make sure it was at least 4-5 feet from a ceiling fan or else the blades would create an unpleasant shadowing.

The tube skylight itself is great. They let in an amazing amount of light and it has been absolutely trouble free.

Make sure the flashing is done right, rain don't just fall down but comes from all directions and when snow melts and the water flows up.
The shinny tube once touched will show those finger prints forever because they are where you can't reach to clean.
They let in a lot of light, position it so that the glare is not a problem for you.
Remember they are meant to go between things don't decide that it has to end here and I'll just cut this truss......
Buy two, you know that when it's in what SWMBO will say.

I put two of these into our last house in one day. It was probably 3-4 hours
for the first one and half that for the next one. The only challenge is not
falling off the roof. Each skylight needed the extender tube to reach from
the roof to the ceiling. I was lucky to have a large attic space to work in.
Although this was done in San Diego, I never had a problem with water leaks
or weather infiltration. Just follow the instructions. The difference was
              like...ummm...night and day. No regrets.

I installed 4 in my shop/garage in Hopkins 1 14" and 3 10" and they were great. I painted the walls and ceiling bright white and on a sunny day it's was just like working outside. I installed 60 watt lights in them for use at night but they didn't work real well. You will enjoy the light.
