    high pitched noise during toilet flush refill

    anyone have a solution besides replacing the whole gizmo inside?

    during the time when the reservior is filling the high pitched noise is heard.

    That can be a few things. It could be coming from the toilet shutoff or from the flush valve itself. Water flowing over a damaged gasket in a shutoff valve can make this noise. You will have to determine which item it is.

      Momentary restriction somewhere. If not in the items above, look for a kink in the supply line, particularly if you've got a flex line in there somewhere. Can also happen if calcium (hardness) builds up in the lines, even those in the wall, but the likelihood of this is less than the other possible causes.

          you can usually take the top off of the fill valve and clean it out.
