    Roofing question

Does the drip edge go on before or after the roofing felt?

according to what I find on google, it goes on after the felt.

This article claims the drip edge first. Then ice and water seal. Then tar paper.

      That is all. Carry on.

It depends on what part of the country you are in. Its argued about all the time. The same way they argue about drip edge vs gutter apron.

Some people install it over the felt to stop the felt from peeling back before they shingle. Some people install it under because its the proper way to layer each segment of a roof.

People will argue drip edge only belongs on edges where gutters aren't installed and guttor apron belongs where gutters are.

I've had three roofs professionally done, and I did one myself. The method used was the drip edge went on top of the felt, and the shingle or cap sheet on top of the drip edge. I don't know if location matters, but I'm in sunny (most of the time) Florida.

Back in the early 70's when I was more involved in construction, mostly new construction, we always put the drip edge all the way around the roof and on top of the felt paper.
I've seen some guys use the lines on the felt paper as a guide to get the shingles straight, as opposed to snaping multiple chalk lines. But, that requires that the felt paper is put on with extra care to get it straight.
AFAIK the felt paper is kinda like an additional barrier against the elements. It certainly won't help if there is a leak since it is full of holes from the nails.
Mostly we used it to protect the plywood deck until the shingles were installed. But I've seen that be a real hazard in the cold months when due on the paper freezes and it becomes impossible to walk on.
Why doesn't the word 'planing' show up in my computer spell check?
