That would be correct answer for the roads as well... With temps just a few degrees below freezing, salt works great. And for the amount of money lost giving a bazillion people several days off work you can buy a whole bunch of salt! Using the roadcrew dump trucks slowly spilling out the back isn't as efficient as the actual spreaders used in colder areas, but it would get the job done. With the death toll from crashes is pushing 100 that's another good reason to clear the roads...

Just saw this thread. You folks down in Texas and California are having a rougher winter than we are! It's been mild for us. You have my sympathy.

I lived in the Dallas area for 35+years before moving to the Austin area. We had our share of ice storms there also, sometimes one ice storm every week for a month or so.

One storm hit during the workday and the maintenance crew used water hoses and washed the windows to melt the ice. It was water straight out of the outside faucets and not warm. It melted the ice OK and no one had any problems. I also used a gallon jug of tap water to melt frost off the windshields in the morning. Never had any problems.

Problem down here is that no one down here, including the cities and state, are prepared for this kind of weather. Tarp trick would be nice, but we haven't seen the sun in 7 days now.

One thing you guys down there could do is to get some "lock de-icer", if it's available. A frozen lock can be a real PITA.

Well with all the help I got from you guys next time I'll know and for starters will be prepared. It all worked out OK after all. The Temperture finally got above freezing late yesterday so I went out and was able to pound the ice off enough to get in and start her up. You probably know the rest. Thanks again everybody. I'll keep these tips in mind if there ever is another time. Course down here in Texas not likely - God I hope anyway although 2 days off with pay was kinda nice.

Yeah tung tied I bet he didn't show up. Course I'm sure he had a meeting he had to attend and is the only reason he didn't show up. Hey, **** razor, boy I sure hope I don't have to pay for ideas and advice from this forum. I'd be broke!

That's odd. I actually typed **** Razor but it was censored. I guess Hellrazor is ok though.
