    Vinyl upholstery repair

My 1987 Corolla has vinyl upholstery, including the padded areas just inside the windows, inside the windshield, etc. Not having been garaged, the sunlight has caused the vinyl to split in places, exposing (split) foam padding. Any way that this can be patched (besides duct tape), hopefully half way decent looking, but mainly to slow down the cracking?

Many moons ago, I had a 1979 GMC Silverado High Sierra (same as a K5 Chevy). It had some serious cracks in the vinyl dash and tried one of those vinyl repair kits with the pieces of pattern pages to press into the finish to resemble the "pebble finish". Actually it worked fairly well, not perfect, but far better than duct tape.

I saw those at the auto parts store, and wondered how they'd work. Not cheap (especially given the amount I'll need!), but I think I'll give it a try.
