    Stucco Repair, need advice

When we moved into our home the master bath had been ravaged by dry rot due to a neglected leak. I am in the process of replacing joists/floorboards/studs etc that have been ruined.

The problem I am having is with the stucco. The outside wall was attached to the existing (now removed studs). I can (and have) replaced the studs with new ones, however this leaves the outside wall unattached to the stud.

Id swear I've seen fasteners with a thin flat washer that could be driven through the stucco and into the new stud, but am having no luck finding them.

Does anyone have any other suggestions, or a lead on the fastener I am looking for?

I think what you are looking for are plaster washers. As for where to find them I'd try Ace Hardware.

I don't mind hearing it, but keep it to yourself if it stinks.

Raffi, I'm not positive, but I think those fasteners are supposed to be used on the lathe underlayment for the stucco, not driven through the stucco. I've tried to drive a number of things through stucco and it's no easy task. You have to treat it like masonry.

Using a masonry drill bit and blue masonry screws might work. If you haven't buttoned up the interior yet, you might be able to use a wire tie to attach the lathe to the studs.

Depending on the size of the repaired area it might not be a big problem. Stucco is pretty firm stuff and isn't likely to come apart too easily. Until the next shaker, that is. Then it should be nicely exposed for a clean repair...

        Yeah plaster washers sound right.

        JR,

I spit coffee through my nose when I read the bit about quakes. Good point.
I didn't mean to imply driving the washer through the stucco, the washer would sit flush on the outside of the wall to hold it to the studs.

Thanks for the quick replies btw.
