    base molding and vinyl flooring

    Hello,

I recently took down the rubber molding that was around my vinyl floor in my kitchen ( I was stripping wallpaper and repainting). That part being done , I want to put down new base molding. The problem is that the edge of the flooring has curled up over the years and the base molding is lifted up a little and not flush with the floor.

Any Suggestions? it's 17' long and I am using two pieces of molding. found an answer about using an iron and heating up the flooring - how long will it stay pliable though? Long enough for me to lay down the base molding? I was also thinking of running a small rabbet down the back of the molding.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff

There are a couple of choices. Some vinyl flooring may have a "memory" that when heated it may lay flat, but return to the "curl" state when cool. A flooring company may have an adhesive for this application. Or, the possibility of cutting out some of the curl and as you said cut a rabbet on the back bottom of the moulding. Maybe a combination of adhesive, heat, rabbet, and forcing down the moulding while fastening may do the trick.
