Tile around a fireplace.

Wondering if I can stick the tiles (12"X12" granite) around the fireplace with the heavyiest duty construction adhesive there is (PL brand) of which I have a lot of or must I use tile adhesive, of which I have none of and would need very little, thus rendering the leftover garbage.

If tile adhesive, is their a recommendation because of the heat factor or will regular floor tile adhesive do?
