Plumbing help: flex drain fix needed

OK, the buyers want the flex drain replaced. No problem. How? The P trap
on my drain doesn't swivel. It's a union joint. The drain will never be centered
over the trap unless the trap moves. Here's a picture. I was thinking I need
to cut the trap out completely at the end of the drain arm. Then get a rubber
union sleeve and a new swiveling P trap--maybe another elbow connector, too.
    Does this sound right?

    Thanks, Paul

    Paul,

I think you are on the right track. Somebody messed this up and you need to cut it out. I do not know why anybody would put a glue together p-trap in this situation. I have put them under a concrete floor and burried in the floor of a house under a tub but never under a sink. Dumb. If you are lucky, the new p-trap may have a washer that lets you link directly to the existing pipe diameter. You might want to cut it off where you have a little bit of pipe attached and take it to the store when you go to get the new p-trap. You should not need to put in a rubber union or anything. With a little luck on the size of the pipe, this may be pretty simple. If not, the first thing I would investigate is gluing on an adapter to get the pipe size to something that will link up with the p-trap readily.

Wow, looks like a great job. Better give a big tip to whoever did the work so they can go out and buy a new tool.
