    Flooring Questions

I am going to be replacing the flooring on the main level, pulling up carpeting and linoleum. I would like to put down carpeting, hardwood and tile.
From the basement, it looks like there is 23/32 OSB subfloor, and I don't know if there is an underlayment.

In a perfect world, the new flooring will all be level.

    1. If the tiling is 3/8" and the cement board is 1/2", how much will the 2 layers of morter (below the cement board, and below tiles) add to my height?

    2. If I decide to hardwood and carpet only, can I put 3/4 hardwood over the OSB, or would I need to add an additional plywood layer?

    3. How do I determine how high to build up the carpet section? Do I want the finished flooring flush with the bottom of the carpet nap?

    Thanks for the advice.

    Jim

    1. The added height is minimal. I would say 1/8".

    2. You can install over OSB but put down an underlayment.

    3. Its easier to install a transition threshold. Otherwise, you are looking at building up the entire carpet section.
