    Weird power problem

Sunday I was sitting watching a movie with my 4 yr old when suddenly the lights flickered and the TV went off. Came right back on. Never really though much of it except I thought the surge fried my clothes dryer because it wouldn't heat. Happened again about 4 times that day, except now everytime I had to change the TV to a different outlet on my surge bar. Stereo was OK.

Meantime I took the dryer apart to find the damage (only way I will ever have to fix the Maytag don'tcha know). Everthing checked out good.
Anyways, Monday it happened again after work. Called the power company.
While waiting for them to show up I decided to check the dryer to see if I had full 240V power. Wouldn't you know it..120 on each leg but out of phase..0 volts between the legs.

    WEIRD.

    power

I am by no means an expert, but this sounds very much like something I encountered a few years ago. Turns out that the ground at the pole was loose. The lineman that repaired it said that something like that could be dangerous.
